The mission of the Multicultural Studies program at Butte College is to cultivate knowledge and respect for the range of human culture and diverse perspectives while developing skills in analysis, critical thinking and communication.

The Multicultural Studies program provides students with diverse cultural perspectives in a global world.  The discipline is an invaluable opportunity for students of all orientations to find a place and viewpoint that validates or expands their understanding of the world community.  In SP18 there is 1 section of each of these courses offered with solid enrollments:  The Chicano American and The Asian American  

Student Learning/Administrative Unit Outcomes

The Multicultural studies Studies program was a recommended outcome from the 2012 Sociology 项目评审.  
Courses were approved by the Chancelors office for the new discipline in SP18.

Strategic Direction

The MCS program directly supports the Butte College initiative to provide a culture of inclusion, foster understanding and respect for diversity and support student success and engagment by empowering students to be active agents in their eduational experience. The proram is also organized in collaboration with the Multicultural studies program at Chico State and was formed with the active assitance of CSUC faculty.

Per the recommendation of 项目评审, Multicultural Studies is transforming to Multicultural and Gender Studies with an expanded curriculum. A multi-disciplinary team was assembled, with a goal of constructing a major fashioned after CSU, 奇科的.

New courses titled Arab American Studies and LGBTQ+ studies are under development and awaiting Curriculum approval.

A Full time fauclty hire to guide and direct the program was also recommend.
